Resources [with OOC mechanics notes]
Rules reminder: A summa is a book that’s an overview of the topic. Spending a downtime season reading it gains you XP equal to the book’s quality. You can read a summa any number of times, until your Art hits the level of the summa, at which point you’ve learned all it has to teach. A tractacus is a single discourse on a topic: you can read it exactly once, and you gain XP on the topic equal to the level of the tractacus, no matter what your level in it is. Some of you have virtues that improve your book learning – remember them! All books are in Latin unless otherwise specified.
*The True Nature of Power, its Manifestation and Use, with Exercises and Notations for both Apprentice and Master – Summa (Vim) – Level 15 Quality 12.
Note: Reading this gives 12 xp in the Art of Vim, unless your Vim is 15 or higher.
*The Art and Knowledge of Creation – Summa (Creo) – Level 12 Quality 12.
Note: Reading this gives 12 xp in the Art of Creo, unless your Creo is 12 or higher.
*The Human Form as Explored Magically, with appropriate notes on Dissection, Magical Chirurgery, the Fundamental and Essential Nature of this Form, and its Modification – Summa (Corpus) – Level 6 Quality 21.
Note: If your Corpus is 6 or less, reading this book makes it 6. Yes, it’s that good.
*Íslendingabók – Summa (Area Lore: Islandia) – Level 4 Quality 10.
Note: This book is written in Icelandic, and therefore none of you can read it. Once you can, it will give you 10 xp in the Ability Area Lore (Islandia), up to level 4, on each reading.
*On the Triumph of Strength of Will – Tractacus (Penetration) – Level 11.
Note: This will give 11 xp in the Ability Penetration, regardless of level.
*On the Development of a Shield Against Magics – Tractacus (Parma Magica) – Level 10.
Note: This will give 10 xp in the Ability Parma Magica, regardless of level.
*On the All-Consuming Nature of Flame – Tractacus (Ignem) – Level 10.
Note: This will give 10 xp in the Art Ignem, regardless of level.
*On Maintaining the Proper Focus Appropriate to a Magus – Tractacus (Concentration) – Level 9. Note: This will give 9 xp in the Ability Concentration, regardless of level.
*Lab Texts for the following spells: Demon’s Eternal Oblivion (10), Circular Ward Against Demons (5), Aegis of the Hearth (10), Mighty Torrent of Water (20), Voice of the Lake (25), Lungs of the Fish (20), Comfort of the Drenched Traveller (5), Sailor’s Foretaste of the Morrow (20), Ward Against Rain (10), The Chirurgeon’s Healing Touch (20R), Bind Wounds (10), Shriek of the Impending Shafts (15), Pilum of Fire (20), Frosty Breath of the Spoken Lie (20), and Sense the Nature of Vis (5).
Note: If your Lab Total for the appropriate Arts in a spell is equal to or higher than the spell’s level, then you can use a Lab Text to learn that spell in a single season of downtime. Otherwise you’ll have to develop it yourself (which is slow) or get better at the Arts.
*Fifteen pawns of vis, one attuned to each Art.
GM Note: I’ll create an individual page for each of these items, in time, so notes on things like who has studied what books can be kept and maintained.
